Judging a Test Strip
When judging a test strip (film) or a file in photoshop, you need to find the exposure time
where you get the right balance of white and light tones showing details in the highlights,
as well as dark grey and black tones showing details in the shadows.
In exposures 1 and 2, there is no good dark/black tones. The darkest areas appear washed out.
In exposures 4 and 5, there is a loss of detail in the figure, and the sky appears too dark.
Therefore, exposure 3 gives us the right combination of details in the highlights and the shadows.
In exposure 1, there dark tones are too bland and grey, and the white has no details in the background.
In exposure 3, the snow is a bit too grey, and we lose details in the figure.
Therefore, exposure 2 gives us the right combination of details in the highlights and the shadows.
